The Health Science Specialist position falls under the direction of the director of the VHA WRIISC Airborne Hazards and Burn Pits Center of Excellence in NJ. The duties include downloading, cleaning, maintenance and restructuring of a national dataset into existing charts and presentations. The main objective is to assist with and coordinate data assembly, management and analysis functions that require interaction between many entities of the medical/scientific field and involve novel issues. Some of the primary duties of this position include: Monitor data for accuracy and prepare for compilation/merging to create analytical datasets for longitudinal and cross-sectional analysis. Perform statistical modeling and quantitative analysis on datasets, including basic descriptive analysis/tabulating profiles/creating data plots, in preparation for more advanced analyses. Assist senior Health Science Specialists with establishing acceptable research policies and procedures for evaluation groups to conduct their reviews and to frame their recommendations for project effectiveness and medical research funds. Assist in the determination of the need for additional ad hoc review/representation from scientific and medical practice specialties.
