The State Licensed Pharmacist fills physician orders for medications for oral, rectal, topical and injectable use; mixes IV admixture solutions, as required, using aseptic technique; types labels, prepares and files charges and performs other related duties.
Works closely with the nursing and medical staff and other clinical department managers in addressing pharmacy issues, such as dosage variations for all ages of patients
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety
Stocks ER PYXIS to comply with after-hour usage requirements; provides pre-packs of medications that are frequently dispensed to ER patients
Assists in the control, purchase and inventory maintenance of pharmaceuticals
Limits after-hours access to Pharmacy by securing all scheduled medications
Compounds IV sterile medications, except in emergency situations or when not feasible Responsible for the storage and distribution of all pharmaceutical items in patient care areas, including stocking of all emergency medication kits located in various Hospital departments
Provides competent coverage for the Pharmacy department, when necessary
Maintains a system of records in accordance with CBH’s policy for recording patient charges and maintains adequate controls over the requisitioning and dispensing of pharmaceuticals
Assists in identifying problems/issues, collects data, establishes facts and draws valid conclusions for resolution to Medical or Hospital staff
Completes annual education requirements
Assists Director in pharmacy operations and after-hour on-call
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Doctorate of Pharmacy degree or Bachelor of Science degree
Graduate of accredited School of Pharmacy
Current pharmacist licensure in state of Kansas
Hospital Experience is preferred
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND COMPETENCY:
Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and written
Strong verbal and written skills and ability to follow written and oral instructions
Ability to interact with patients, visitors and employees
Ability to follow policies and procedures
Basic computer knowledge
Self directed, motivated and capable of supervising support personnel
Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as dosage calculations, formulation of pharmaceutical preparations and data analysis Ability to read, analyze and interpret pharmacy-related journals
Write reports and effectively present information to management, medical staff and hospital staff
Additional Salary Information: Work hours are flexible. The available benefit package will be based on weekly hours schedule.
