The purpose of the position is to perform tasks with several steps of skilled duties that require a basic knowledge of food service operations related to food preparation. The incumbent serves as a Food Service Worker, WG-7408-02 and is assigned in the Production & Service Section located at the Nutrition & Food Service in support of the Department of Veterans Affairs Southern Nevada Healthcare Systems, LV VASNHS. Work Schedule: Part Time - Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm Position Description Title/PD#: Part Time Food Service Worker 593-3545A Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not authorized The incumbent is a Part-Time Food Service Worker, working and rotating through WG-7408-02 positions on either the early, late or relief shifts. The incumbent follow set procedures in accomplishing repetitive assignments and follow an established sequence of work. 1. Delivers meal trays, tube feedings and nourishment to the patient's bedside, wards, clinics, dining room, etc. in accordance with Nutrition and Food Services Standard Operation Procedure for tray delivery and pick-up. Reports to supervisor or dietitian, or nursing, any problems, complaints or comments. 2. Assists patients in setting up tray. For example, opening packaged items (milk, juice, salad dressings, etc.), cuts whole meats to bite sized pieces, etc. 3. Picks up and returns soiled trays and dishes to the dish room after meals. 4. Brews coffee according to the number of servings required. 5. Apportions other food items (e.g., gelatin, juice, desserts, etc.) into standard serving sizes using proper utensils and storage containers. 6. Makes cold sandwiches using prepared ingredients and packs box/sack lunches. Assembles salad type items (fruit or greens) and prepared dressings. 7. Sets up and operates a mechanical dishwasher, including the continuous conveyor belt feeding dishwasher. Removes and inspects doors, strainer pans, screens, and spray arms for preventive maintenance and cleaning. 8. Sets up and operates pot washing. Scrapes, soaks, scours, and scrubs the heavier cooking utensils such as mixing bowls and pots, which because of their large size and weight, may be awkward to handle. 9. Performs heavy-duty cleaning tasks throughout the food service and related areas, such as cleaning ceilings; cleaning outside of exhaust hoods; cleaning spaces under and behind kitchen equipment, including moving the equipment; washing floors and walls with powered cleaning equipment; cleaning walk in refrigerators and freezers; and sanitizing garbage rooms. Unloads food from delivery trucks, when assigned. 10. Complies with all safety/fire prevention rules/regulations, using protective equipment when required and provided. Promptly reports all accidents and notifies supervisor of unsafe/unhealthful conditions in the workplace. Attends scheduled training sessions and participates in facility or service level safety promotions as directed by supervisor. Knows fire drill and emergency plans for work area, including location of all emergency fire equipment.
