Pharmacy Service is seeking 2 highly qualified Pharmacy Technicians for the Birmingham VA Health Care System. Lead Inpatient and Lead outpatient: The Lead Pharmacy Technician provides support for the licensed Pharmacist and the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor. The incumbent while under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist will be expected to perform supportive functions independently. The incumbent is expected to maintain a high degree of accurate productivity and performance when performing critical functions. The technician's major duties will include setting up, filling, and preparation of medications for dispensing. Labeling all medications appropriately for dispensing to patients, wards or clinics; including all applicable auxiliary labels. Delivering medications to appropriate areas. Noncomplex preparation of sterile compounds (if trained and locally certified to perform this function) Responsible for day-to-day operations in accordance with established priorities and assistance from supervisors. Assists with oversight of daily operations and facilitates workflow to ensure operations run smoothly. Assesses workload volume throughout the day, identifying backlogs and makes staffing adjustments as needed to meet goals. This includes ensuring coverage is adequately provided in urgent situations where the supervisor is not available. Responsible for workload analysis and reports to pharmacy service management regarding pharmacy operations, including recommendations for efficiencies and cost effectiveness. Assists with administrative paperwork as requested by supervisor(s). Responsible for orientation and training of new technicians who will be assigned to perform inpatient duties. Ensures technicians continue to follow proper processes and procedures. Retrains as necessary. Provides any concerns regarding training, performance and competencies to the appropriate supervisor. Maintains current knowledge and answers questions of other employees on policies, procedures, directives, etc. related to job functions. Assists in developing, updating, and reviewing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for all technician duties. Assists with developing performance standards that are realistic, challenging and support the organizational mission, vision and goals. Provides ongoing feedback to supervisor regarding technician performance, including provision of a summary for employees to supervisor at midpoint and end of year evaluations. Deals effectively with employee suggestions and complaints and other matters involved in day to day administration. Recognizes which concerns need to be brought to the supervisor's attention and does so in a timely and effective manner. Serves as a liaison between pharmacists and technicians to improve communications and help resolve work related problems. Assists supervisors with quality/performance improvement projects. Assists with managing the Pharmacy Cache. Work Schedule: 6 am to 6 pm (8-hour shifts) Financial Disclosure Report: Not required
