This is an external job announcement. Current permanent Chillicothe VAMC employees, current permanent VA employees from another facility, and current permanent employees from another Federal Agency MUST apply under the INTERNAL announcement, CBSR-11080116-21-RRB unless applying by using Veteran Preference. All applicants applying under this external announcement will be subject to Veterans' preference. The Nursing Assistant for Mental Health provides Veteran/resident care, performs clinical procedures, technical procedures and ancillary services for Veteran/resident care. Performs a variety of personal care or nursing care activities which do not require practical or registered nurse licensure and/or education. Performs a wide variety of duties aimed at increasing the comfort of the Veteran/resident. Duties include but are not limited to: Provides dependable and timely age-specific nursing care. Receives work schedule with instructions and asks for assistance/ guidance as necessary. Listens attentively to report, takes notes, and asks for clarification when unsure of content. Performs basic procedures and treatments according to the orientation/annual/unit specific competency checklist for assigned patients with guidance. Preserves patient confidentiality and respects patient/family/significant other rights. Functions as a therapeutic companion (TC) for Veterans who need close observation. TC assignment includes providing care (baths, personal hygiene, feeding, elimination, and intake and output) for Veteran and preventing Veteran from hurting himself or interfering with the treatment by pulling out lines/IVs. Keeps Veteran under direct observation and engages Veteran in activities as indicated.
