The W.G. (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Center, Salisbury, NC has an immediate opening for a Medical Technologist (Laboratory Education Coordinator and Laboratory Information Manager) to work within the Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Service. Duties/Tasks: EDUCATION COORDINATOR: 50% 1. Develops policies, recommends policies, and directs formal educational programs. 2. Plans and conducts programs in course design and teaching techniques for all instructional personnel. Evaluates bench instruction to assure program uniformity and continuity. 3. Coordinate new employee orientation to ensure timely training and documentation completion. 4. Ensure lab staff are compliant with: TMS, competency, BLS, certification requirements. 5. Work with section supervisor to update competency forms and ensure timely completion and appropriate documentation of training and competency. 6. Trains and evaluates a variety of individuals (medical technician / technology /clinical laboratory science student, phlebotomy students, and employees, physicians, residents, nurses) in laboratory medicine. 7. Evaluates activities and recommends policy changes to correct deficiencies and improve the program. Ensures compliance with educational program guidance/regulations in order to maintain accreditation of the program. 8. Analyzes emerging trends and technology and adopts appropriate methods in local programs to meet agency goals. 9. Develops curriculums for program participants. Develop recruitment materials, training materials, evaluation instruments, and other program materials. 10. Provides authoritative representation and interaction with cooperating or affiliated universities or colleges, resource organizations, and state and federal officials in order to coordinate program goals, objectives, and policies. 11. Develops curricula for retraining staff when proficiency challenges are not met successfully. 12. Serves as a local expert to develop continuous training activities when new instrumentation or methodology is introduced in the lab. 13. Work with outside authorities to coordinate and implement education and research programs. LABORATORY INFORMATION MANAGER: 50% 1. Develops and recommends new policies and procedures regarding the installation and use of the LIS or the HIS. 2. Implements and maintains coding and mapping for laboratory test ordering, reporting, billing, and workload recording systems. 3. Analyzes emerging trends, software, and technology and adopts appropriate methods for local programs to meet agency goals. 4. Responsible for compliance with regulatory agency requirements as related to information systems and performs audits as needed. 5. Advise all organizational levels on various aspects of the functions and capabilities of the information system. 6. Serves as a recognized expert to provide authoritative advice and consultation on the information system. 7. Serves as the local expert for national software developers for alpha or beta testing of software packages. 8. Provides consultation and training of personnel on computer functions, including ordering options, and responsible for the maintenance of computer security keys. 9. Carries out day-to-day operations related to laboratory computer use. 10. Grants, reviews and revokes access based on the least privilege principles, including evidence of the 90-day access review. 11. Functions as the ADP Coordinator for the service, which includes troubleshooting PC, telephone, and fax problems, and submits work orders to Information Resources Management Service (IRMS) or to Engineering Service, whichever is most appropriate, for problems that employees cannot resolve. 12. Follow-up with these services, making sure the repairs are done in a prompt manner. 13. Troubleshoots equipment problems, requesting repair as needed. 14. Maintains an inventory of all service equipment. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; Varying work schedule to include rotating weekends and holidays Financial Disclosure Report: Not required
