A qualified Physician who serves s a provider of Internal Medicine care for inpatients at the Medical Step-Down Unit, Rapid Response Team activations, non-teaching Observation Beds Ward and outpatients care at the Emergency Room Fast Tract area and Emergency Room Internal Medicine as a consultant, inpatient Medical consultant in the Healthcare System. Supervision shall include review of medical records, patient care, treatment, and consultation requests. There shall be an active and dynamic interchange of care in the clinical setting. The Incumbent will follow all duties designed by the Supervisor and/or Service Chief that could be changed within a reasonable time and within an internal medicine clinical setting being provided appropriate instructions and coordination. The tour of duty will be of irregular hours and compressed time. The overall responsibilities of the Hospitalist Staff typically include, but are not limited to: Ensures that high quality patient care is delivered in a resource efficient manner. Manage patients with Internal Medicine conditions such as but not limited to: respiratory insufficiency, prolonged mechanical ventilation, and all general internal medicine conditions. Perform procedures related to the service such as but not limited to: paracentesis, airway management, evaluation of radiologic studies, BLS/ACLS. Participation in educational and scholar activities such as seminars, journal clubs, cancer conferences, grand rounds, treatment planning conferences and dissemination of acquired knowledge through peer reviewed publications. Complies with VHA regulations and professional standards and ethical conduct. Works to ensure that the VA Healthcare System programs reflect the mission and priorities of the VHA and VA as well as take an active participatory role as a leadership team member, providing counsel in defining and accomplishing the health system's mission and goals pertinent to their scope of practice. Complies with agency regulations, medical staff bylaws, VA Healthcare System policies, pertinent Joint Commission standards, and other appropriate regulations as they apply. Promotes an environment of system-oriented continuous quality improvement. Actively participates in long- and short-term goals in support of VISN/VHA mission. Work Schedule: Irregular tour of duty providing 24/7 coverage and compress time. Includes holidays, weekends and nights shifts.
