| The supervisory audiologist position is located in the Audiology and Speech Pathology Service at Bay Pines VA. He/She monitors staff and completes supervisory tasks. The Section Chief conducts a full range of audiological evaluations to determine the type and degree of hearing loss, determines patients' need for amplification, predicts and measures the effectiveness of amplification, and determines need for and type of rehabilitation and counseling of veterans with hearing loss. Other duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Ensures that work assignments of the other members of a clinical team are carried out by performing a range of administrative duties and has decision making authority to improve and change processes as required. Uses knowledge of contemporary audiology practice. Exercises independent clinical judgment and adapts clinical procedures and techniques to accommodate age-specific and unique patient conditions, needs, and expectations. Consults with physicians and other health care practitioners related to diagnostic evaluation and treatment. Evaluates patients to determine nature, type, and severity of hearing and balance disorders using a full range of diagnostic tests and techniques, past, family, and social history, record review, and consultation with family and other health care practitioners. Documents in the medical record: evaluates, diagnosis and clinical opinion, treatment plans, outcomes of treatment, changes in functional status, and patient/family education. Provides orientation/training of medical staff. Assists in orientation and training of new staff as assigned primarily at the LCO location. Assists in the training and supervision of students, trainees, and fellows, and provides feedback on progress toward established educational goals. Performs QA on weekly schedule for all Southern Facilities to ensure appropriate clinic coverage during planned and unplanned leave, training, benefit days and compressed days for all staff. Proposes and submits clinic modifications to HAS AM team to improve productivity and clinic utilization with Chiefs approval. Tracks no show and missed opportunity rates for all clinics, proposes and implements improvements to walk in clinic services. Covers clinical profiles on emergency basis during periods of unplanned leave requests at the Southern site as well as spends 10 hours per week in direct patient care or supervising doctoral resident. Completes peer review for all Audiology clinical staff, FEE providers, and C&P providers at the facility, to include occasional work on Saturdays to Coordinates staffing and labor pool needs, to include serving in labor pool as needed in times of emergency activation to include weather events, pandemics, and other emergency events; this may include evening and weekend response, complete peer review for FEE, and C&P providers. Participates in the interview and selection process for new employees or transfers to the Southern clinic and within the department. Is responsible for hiring and training fee basis Audiologists working in clinical setting. Monitors TMS assignments for staff, conducts the morning huddle at LCHC, communicates daily via email with Southern Facility staff to ensure disbursement of all pertinent information, and assists the Chief with coordinating and implementing expansion or re-location events. Attends the weekly Access meetings via V-Tel, the weekly LCHC executive committee meetings with the ACOS for the Southern clinics and other meetings as assigned by Chief. Researches, writes and obtains approval from Infection Control, for all RME SOP's, and trains all technicians on RME procedures including documenting competencies for all staff. Serves as facilitator and/or negotiator in coordinating initiatives and consensus building activities among clinical team members. Responsible for the quarterly, semi-annual and annual performance appraisals for all Audiology staff assigned to the Southern clinic. Coordinate and participates, along with the Service Chief, in the overall planning, development, implementation and oversight of various programs within the section. Participates in the ongoing assessment of staffing, space and equipment allocations and the expansion or addition of future services within the Southern facility.
