The Senior Data Center Technician is responsible for the day-to-day facility and operational needs of the Fairview data centers and server rooms performing critical support to ensure the Mission Critical Data Centers are available 24x7 to minimize the impact to Fairview clinical and business operations. This position supports the Data Center infrastructure by planning and coordinating facility maintenance. Also performs monitoring, processing and day to day operations and Data Center operations solutions. The Senior Data Center Technician is the hands on support performing tasks such as hardware troubleshooting, IT hardware installations and decommissions.
Plans, organizes, coordinates, gets approval for and schedules Facilities Maintenance for the 24x7 Mission Critical Data Centers and IT Server rooms. Updates, reviews and verifies Maintenance Operations Procedures for Facilities Maintenance with the Data Center vendors to prevent unplanned IT service disruptions to clinical and business operations. This maintenance includes but is not limited to HVAC units, generators, UPSs and UPS batteries, electrical switch gear, automatic transfer switches and fire life safety systems.
Performs thorough cleaning and testing on communication and storage cables using diagnostic hardware ensure high-speed performance.
Maintain asset tracking of Data Center hardware. Coordinate the destruction of media and maintain Certificate of Destruction serial number lists. Coordinate the recycling of old hardware with vendor.
Provision, plan, and install equipment in the data centers and server rooms including servers and storage. Order and procure equipment and parts necessary for installations in advance to ensure hardware/software needed for project implementations meet the project dates.
Troubleshoot and maintain equipment within the data centers. Help determine efficiency and effectiveness of IT systems or services. Make recommendations based on experience and expertise.
Keep up-to-date on policies and requirements to ensure the data center equipment meets standards. Ensure all necessary operational processes and procedures are carried out with a high level of attention to detail, expediency and on-time delivery.
Ensure Fairview data center standards are followed. Assist in the creation and maintenance of data center diagrams and detailed site documentation. Write procedural and policy documentation for internal and external use. Validate that all documentation is current and accurate.
Participate on projects with implementations or upgrades to Data Center equipment. Assist with receiving of hardware and coordinate storage placement until hardware is provisioned.
Participate in regular inspections of the critical infrastructure including data collection and evaluation. Alert appropriate team to provide warning/notification if thresholds have been reached, something has changed, or a failure has occurred. Documents findings and concerns collect all pertinent data.
Help resolve technical problems with hardware, software and connectivity. Use experience, expertise and data analysis to collaborate with IT team members in the identification of corrective actions to increase efficiency, improve performance and meet or exceed consumption targets.
Maintain inventory and labeling of equipment. Monitor rack and room environments for adequate power and cooling for IT equipment.
Provision security access to the Data Centers. Conduct and document quarterly Data Center access security audits.
Perform Tape Library Duties: Ensuring accuracy of incoming and outgoing tapes. Tracking the volume of tapes being used. Requesting offsite tapes as needed. Conduct tape audits.
Part of 24x7 on-call support rotation schedule.
Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience
5 years of experience in Data Center Management
Excellent interpersonal, communication, documentation, and troubleshooting skills
Experience in the installation, de-installation, repair, and maintenance of electronic equipment in a data center environment
Experience using Data Center Information Management (DCIM) tools
