The Office for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination (OPHD) supports the University’s policies prohibiting discrimination against or harassment of any person on the basis of their membership in a protected category and is responsible for preparing UCSF’s written affirmative action plan for minorities and women, persons with disabilities, and covered veterans. In addition, OPHD responds to audits, complaints, and requests for information from various federal and state agencies and from the University of California Office of the President (UCOP).
* Bachelor's degree in related area and 3+ of directly related experience, or equivalent experience / training â* Minimum of one year of experience in conducting complex investigations. * Juris Doctor degree * Training in trauma-focused approaches to investigations * Title IX compliance certification * Experience investigating sexual harassment or other equivalently sensitive allegations in an empathetic and confidential manner * Understanding of the relevance of trauma in the context of sexual violence (for example, the neurobiology of trauma and trauma-informed investigation techniques) * Experience interacting with constituents that are diverse in characteristics such as age, education level, race, gender identity and expression, ability, and socioeconomic backgrounds, in a culturally- competent manner * Thorough knowledge of theories and systems of internal control * Broad knowledge of University ethics and compliance policies, procedures and programs

The Complaint Resolution Officer (CRO) serves as a subject matter expert on sexual harassment and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO)-related laws and responds to complaints of harassment and discrimination pursuant to the University’s Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment Policy (SVSH Policy) and the University’s Policy on Discrimination, Harassment, and Affirmative Action in the Workplace Policy (Nondiscrimination Policy).
The CRO is primarily responsible for conducting intake interviews relating to allegations of violations of the SVSH Policy and/or the Nondiscrimination Policy, assessing documentary evidence and information provided during intake interviews, conducting alternative resolutions when appropriate, and conducting thorough and prompt formal investigations of complaints alleging violations of the SVSH Policy and/or the Nondiscrimination Policy. Formal investigations include preparing notices of formal investigation; developing an investigative plan; conducting party and witness interviews; providing parties and witnesses with information about the investigatory process; analyzing documents and information and assessing credibility to determine whether policy violations have occurred, while ensuring that the investigation is neutral, prompt, and thorough; maintaining accurate and thorough investigatory files and reports; and appropriately working with other university offices as needed.
The CRO will function as a member of the Office for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination (OPHD) and will assist, as needed, with campus training, reporting, campus programming, and outreach. The CRO will function as a member of OPHD and will serve as a campus subject matter expert on sexual harassment, sexual violence, and EEO-related laws and requirements.
The CRO primarily responds to complaints of discrimination and harassment and discrimination pursuant to the University’s SVSH Policy and the University’s Policy on Discrimination, Harassment, and Affirmative Action in the Workplace Policy (“Nondiscrimination Policy”) and must possess the ability to exercise independent judgment, assess and negotiate complex, highly sensitive situations, maintain confidentiality, and maintain neutrality when handling matters. The CRO conducts intake interviews relating to allegations of violations of the SVSH Policy and/or the Nondiscrimination Policy, assesses documentary evidence and information provided during intake interviews, conducts alternative resolutions when appropriate, and conducts thorough and prompt formal investigations of complaints alleging violations of the SVSH Policy and/or the Nondiscrimination Policy.
The CRO will make recommendations concerning matters that the CRO believes are appropriate for alternative resolution and, upon approval from the Assistant Vice Chancellor/Title IX Coordinator, will work with the parties to mediate and negotiate voluntary agreements. When assigned to conduct formal investigations, the CRO will prepare notices of formal investigation; develop an investigative plan; conduct party and witness interviews; analyze documents and information; assess credibility to determine whether policy violations have occurred; ensure that the investigation is neutral, prompt, and thorough; maintain accurate and thorough investigatory files and reports; appropriately work with other university offices as needed; and, in accordance with UC and local UCSF procedures, draft a comprehensive investigation report that thoroughly describes the methodology, information received and considered, credibility assessments, and factual and policy findings.
The CRO will also assist, as needed, with conducting internal audits, legal research, and providing campus training, campus programming, outreach.
