The Loaner Coordinator is responsible for assuring that all loaner and consignment instrumentation is available prior to scheduled surgeries in a time frame that allows Sterile Processing Department (SPD) to process appropriately.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Loaner Coordinator assists SPD Leadership/staff, OR leadership and surgeon's offices in identifying special instrumentation needs, determining availability within CCHS and when required contacting appropriate vendor to arrange/confirm delivery of additional instrumentation. The Loaner Coordinator maintains an ongoing dialog with the SPD Supervisors, surgeons offices, vendors and Perioperative Service Coordinators (PSC) concerning the status of loaner instrumentation. The following areas are the principal responsibilities of the Loaner Coordinator:
Reviews Operating Room schedules on a regular basis to identify surgical cases that require supplemental instrumentation (based on both current CCHS instrument set par levels and additional special case needs).
Updates loaner tracking system regularly with specific information about loaner instrumentation confirmed for scheduled cases.
Confirms arrangements with vendor for delivery of instrumentation, including preparation instructions, to Sterile Processing Department in advance of surgery.
Facilitates communication to SPD and OR staff as to what special instrumentation is anticipated and confirmed for each surgical case.
Assembles loaner sets appropriately for sterilization.
Generates usage reports and trend reports of loaner instrumentation requirements as requested to facilitate oversight over loaner process and support potential SPD purchase decisions.
Serves as an educational resource for surgeon's office staff.
Also collaborates with Material Management, Transportation, and other departments when appropriate.
Supports departmental and CCHS performance improvement initiatives.
Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High School graduate/GED plus Associate degree and/or equivalent college/ work experience.
Three years SPD/Materials Management and/or related experience.
Progressive management experience preferred.
Certification in Sterile Processing
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
Three years experience in handling and processing sterile instrumentation.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
