Children’s Hospital & Medical Center (Children’s) invites applications and nominations for the position of Chief Medical Informatics Officer (CMIO). The CMIO will serve as the critical bridge between the information system teams and providers to support excellence in patient care, enhance the physician’s work experience, and support safety and quality by advocating for strategic and reliable use of information technology in all clinical settings. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic physician leader with a strong interest in informatics and technology to serve as the lead in the refinement, standardization, and system-wide adoption of the clinical information system. Working closely with the Executive Vice President/Chief Clinical Officer and Physician-in-Chief (EVP) and the Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO), the CMIO will direct data-driven patient outcome improvements and formulate credible, effective, long-range strategies to advance pediatric population health within the region and beyond.
Children’s is a vibrant, cutting-edge acute-care hospital affiliated with the College of Medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and Creighton University School of Medicine – both in Omaha. Children’s provided care to more than 153,000 unique children in 2019, resulting in 698,000 patient visits. The CMIO will be joining Children’s at a significant moment in its history. Children’s welcomed a new Chief Executive Officer in September of 2020 and the Hubbard Center for Children, a state-of-the-art clinical facility that will double Children’s capacity, is scheduled to open in 2021. Children’s entered a 10-year strategic partnership with Philips Company in 2017 to implement technologies in standardizing pediatric care across departments and to drive innovation. Together, they are identifying opportunities to enhance the quality and cost effectiveness of patient services, including focusing on connected solutions in diagnostic imaging, patient monitoring, respiratory solutions and clinical informatics.
The successful candidate will be an M.D. or D.O. and will hold a faculty appointment at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. The CMIO will have technological sophistication, strategic thinking, a multifaceted understanding of the complexities of an electronic health record system, and the intellectual depth, experience, and confidence to work with many constituents throughout Children’s including physicians, hospital staff, and administrators. The CMIO will utilize clinical data and ensure useful analytics on the backend to tell a larger story about the health of the population with a focused outcome in improving care delivery and moving towards an overall cost reduction. In this role, the CMIO will be charged with driving the agenda for using analytics to better population health; effectively harnessing the power of EPIC; assessing and implementing changes in the EMR system; and working with the leadership to frame and establish true EMR governance.
