Fairview Health Services is looking for a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist for the Microbiology Laboratory at St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Paul.
We have added a new position to the Fairview Health Services Microbiology team to enhance our commitment to better patient care and to streamline our processes. This evening Microbiology position will perform specimen setup, culture reading, susceptibility and molecular testing. This is a part-time, benefit eligible position with a set schedule. It will include 48 hours/2 week pay period working 8hour shifts. This will be an evening shift on set days Monday-Friday and mid-shift on 2 out of 6 Saturdays with rotating holidays.

Provides accurate and timely performance of routine and complex laboratory procedures.
Performs routine and complex tests per department policy and procedure, ensuring accurate and reliable laboratory results.
Communicates difficult or unusual requests, results, or test follow-up that is necessary to ensure timely completion of the procedure.
Notifies appropriate caregiver of significant or critical value test results per department policy.
Performs computer and clerical functions to ensure accurate test ordering and reporting of patient results.
Performs and documents maintenance and troubleshooting procedures on laboratory instrumentation to ensure proper operation.
Makes appropriate decisions based on the quality control results, in regard to patient testing. Takes corrective action, if needed.
Performs specimen collection to ensure the accurate and appropriate performance of patient testing while maintaining patient dignity, comfort and confidentiality.
Communicates errors to immediate supervisor or designee and completes appropriate section on Quality Event forms when errors are found.
Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards.
Actively participates in creating and implementing improvements.
Performs other responsibilities as needed/assigned.
Bachelors in a related laboratory field including the related lab practicum or equivalent routes as specified in CLIA 88.
Possess or be eligible to receive appropriate HHS approved laboratory certification (ASCP or AMT). HEW certification is also recognized. If not certified, must obtain certification within 1 year of hire.
1 year of hospital clinical laboratory experience performing routine laboratory testing preferred.
