Seeking a dynamic Chief of Gastroenterology for the Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital. This opportunity will be vacant due to the planned retirement of the current Chief. This 1A facility, administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), located 12 miles west of downtown Chicago. This position entails possible academic appointment at Loyola University of Chicago, Stritch School of Medicine. The Section of Gastroenterology performs a full spectrum of diagnostic procedures in the GI Lab. It provides patient care in the outpatient GI clinics and on inpatient GI consultations. The hepatology group is a part of the Section of Gastroenterology. Medical students, internal medicine residents and GI fellows from Loyola rotate through Hines. Ample opportunities to participate in teaching are available. The two medical centers are located on the same campus.
The successful applicant will share in the coverage of the GI Lab, will be a skilled endoscopist, and have experience in administration, preferably within the VA system. He or she will establish collaborative relationship with the leaders of the Division of Gastroenterology and the Department of Medicine at Loyola University. The applicant will qualify for academic appointment at Loyola, preferably at or above the Associate Professor level. The Section has made significant contributions to clinical research, particularly on the diseases of the esophagus. In addition, applicant will have a record of accomplishment in research, or at the minimum, demonstrated ability to create environment in the Section that promotes research activity.
The new Chief will be based at Hines VA, at least 75% time. Part-time clinical practice at Loyola will be available, if desired. VA employment offers robust benefits. United States citizenship is required for employment by Veterans Affairs. The position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement program.
