The Chaplain is a healing and support resource and is responsible for providing age-specific spiritual assessments of the patient, family, and staff regarding healing and support resources. The Chaplain communicates with patients/residents, families, and members of the health care team in an effort to enhance dignity, hope, autonomy, self-respect, and spiritual well being.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for the integration of community spiritual services into the hospital setting to meet the patient needs.
Assists visiting clergy of all faiths in utilizing the hospital's facilities for counseling and ministering to the needs of patients and families of their faith.
Assists with the set-up of the hospital chapel for religious services.
Will contact community spiritual centers at the direction of patients requesting visitation.
Directs patient concerns about hospitalization and/or treatment issues to the department Nurse Manager.
Performs clerical duties for the Spiritual Care Department.
Assists with integrating goals of the department into the overall goals of the hospital.
Maintains a good working relationship with all departments of the hospital.
Collects information regarding questions on the inpatient admission form and provides compiled information to manager for review.
Is familiar and can locate Manuals concerning Safety, Emergency Preparedness, Administration, and Infection Control.
Provides informational materials to staff.
Demonstrates the ability to deal with pressure to meet deadlines, to be accurate, and to handle constantly changing situations.
Demonstrates the ability to deal with a variety of people, deal with stressful situations, and handle conflict.
Knowledgeable about and available to educate staff on Cultural and Spiritual Sensitivity
Must be able to operate office equipment such as computer, copier, telephone, pager, fax, and printer
Must be able to work independently.
Performs additional duties as needed.
Adheres to dress code.
Completes annual educational requirements.
Maintains regulatory requirements.
Wears identification while on duty.
Maintains confidentiality at all times.
Attends department staff meetings as required within the department.
Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work in designated time.
Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
Coordinates efforts in meeting regulatory compliance, federal, state and local regulations and standards
Communicates and complies with the Benefis Health System Mission, Vision and Values as well as the focus statement of the department.
Complies with Benefis Health System Organization Policies and Procedures.
Complies with Health and Safety Standards and Guidelines.
Certified (or eligible) and/or member of the National Association of Catholic Chaplains, Association of Professional Chaplains, or National Association of Jewish Chaplains preferred.
