The position of the Quality Improvement Nurse Analyst integrates the role of patient advocate in the provision of care with the technical functions of data collection, intensive patient care review, and process improvement. This position requires a high level of clinical judgment, creativity, organization, and priority setting. The Quality Improvement Nurse Analyst works closely with the Director of Quality and Safety and the Chief Quality Officer to lead performance improvement activities that ensure optimal patient outcomes and early identification of patient safety issues. In the absence of the department manager, the Quality Improvement Nurse Analyst supports and ensures ongoing operations. The Quality Improvement Nurse Analyst provides support for system-wide performance improvement through collaboration and coordination of various projects across the healthcare system. The Quality Improvement Nurse Analyst combines expert clinical knowledge of health care delivery systems with current quality improvement tools and techniques to achieve excellence in clinical outcomes at UC Davis Health.
At least 2 years recent experience in acute care and/or ICU/inpatient medical-surgical nursing.
Clinical chart review and abstraction experience.
Valid California nursing license at the time of hire, without restrictions
Ability to speak publicly in front of physicians, department chairs, physician champions, and hospital leadership regarding quality-related data
Computer and Internet skills and experience– immediate to advanced level of experience with MS Office products is essential for success in this position (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access) as is familiarity with electronic health record systems.
Knowledge of Joint Commission on Accreditation for Healthcare Organization standards, California Administrative Code Title 22 Regulations, Hospital Quality Alliance Measures, Pay for Performance, etc. and other regulatory agency criteria for performance improvement and clinical resource analysis.
Analytical skills to identify areas to improve resource use, develop and implement action plans, and manage group dynamics through project implementation.
Advanced understanding of hospital and outpatient clinic operations. Familiarity with internal and external sources of demographic, financial, and utilization data for the hospital and clinics. Knowledge of basic methods and techniques associated with clinical program planning, development, and implementation.
Knowledge of performance improvement evaluation methods, tools, and techniques for problem-solving; ability to use change management principles when redesigning processes.
Database data entry and/or management experience.
Quality improvement or patient safety knowledge and experience.
Ability to work in a non-smoking environment.
Ability to work occasional overtime.
