| JOB TITLE: Pharmacy Technician Student LOCATION: Geisinger Medical Center Hospital DEPARTMENT: Enterprise Pharmacy WORK SCHEDULE: Days WORK TYPE: Flex JOB SUMMARY: Under the general direction of a pharmacist or pharmacy technician, assists in filling all physician/dietitian orders/prescriptions which includes all oral, topical, and injectable medications as well as nutrition. This is accomplished by using an automated medication distribution system, an automated inventory system, and a manual picking system. Through training received, the individual will be competent to assist pharmacists and technicians in the work area. Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of the Medical Center in its efforts to provide quality pharmaceutical care and patient satisfaction. Reports directly to the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor and Operations Director, ultimately, the Pharmacy Director. COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: Requires the ability to communicate effectively and follow instructions. Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical calculations and to use computers for spreadsheets and word processing. Working knowledge of medical terminology and pharmaceutical and/or chemical names preferred. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Must currently possess or be working toward high school degree or GED. Fulfills relevant requirements of the Technician Training Program that apply to the duties performed by a pharmacy student. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must have the ability to accommodate a flexible schedule of rotating shifts and the ability to stand or walk for approximately 90% of the shift.
