JOB TITLE: Pharmacy Technician I LOCATION: Geisinger South Wilkes Barre DEPARTMENT: CareSite Specialty Pharmacy WORK SCHEDULE: Days WORK TYPE: Full Time
Eligible for sign-on bonus.
JOB SUMMARY: Reads, interprets, profiles and fills all physician and dietician orders and prescriptions including oral, topical, and injectable medications using QS/1 (or any other) software for filling prescriptions. Performs a variety of technical duties under the general guidance of a pharmacist. Contacts patients monthly to assess need for medication refill. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients on their assigned clinical area. Reports to the pharmacy manager and, ultimately, to the director of pharmacy for GMMC Diversified Services. Acts as a resource and teacher for technician, pharmacist and student staff. Works independently, conveys new ideas and reports finished projects to the pharmacy manager. Performs duties to provide the highest level of patient care and maximize patient satisfaction. Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of the Geisinger Medical Management Corporation in its efforts to provide quality pharmaceutical care and patient satisfaction.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: Must be able to communicate effectively, perform mathematical calculations, use computers for spreadsheets and word processing, and follow instructions. A working knowledge of medical terminology and pharmaceutical and/or chemical names is preferred. Demonstrates superior knowledge, skill, vision and commitment. Demonstrates ability to work independently.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
Must have passed the pharmacy technician certification board’s national certification exam or take and pass the exam within one year of employment. Must accrue enough continuing education credits to maintain the certification.
One year of experience in a specialty or retail setting is strongly preferred.
Must pass the Pharmacy Technician Proficiency Examination with at least an 85 percent.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to accommodate a flexible schedule. Must be able to stand or walk for approximately 70 percent of the shift.
