WittKieffer has been retained by Berkshire Medical Center (BMC) in Pittsfield, MA, to assist in the search for a seasoned, results-oriented operations executive to serve as Chief Operating Officer (COO). Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer of Berkshire Health Systems, David Phelps, the COO is responsible for leading and organizing the overall clinical delivery operations and services for BMC. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, collaborative executive who wants to join a clinically sophisticated, multi-site health system with a diverse array of post-acute integrated healthcare services, including skilled nursing, long-term care, senior housing, hospice, and other services.
Berkshire Medical Center is a 307-bed community teaching hospital and the recipient of numerous national recognitions for service excellence and patient safety. The organization is fortunate to possess many unique qualities as a high performing, not-for-profit health system; the organization is both stable and innovative with dedicated employees, leaders and clinicians who are talented, mutually supportive, and community-centered in helping the organization meet its mission. Given the longevity and success of numerous medical residencies and the unique characteristics combining medical education in a community-based delivery model, BMC has a depth of sophisticated clinical services and quality practices often not found in a community of its size. The next leader will be expected to nurture and further strengthen an employee culture that is in part defined by a commitment to serving the community and servant leadership.
BMC seeks a leader who will effectively enlist people in being a part of necessary changes which include elevating employee engagement and patient satisfaction and positioning BMC to be an even more efficient, innovative provider of high-quality care. There is an expectation for a performance-oriented, operationally-superb, innovative leader who will optimize quality and safety outcomes and operational and financial performance. Helping BMC thrive in this environment requires a results-oriented, innovative leader with proven senior acute care operations leadership experience, a broad base of experience and knowledge of healthcare, superior instincts and intellect, and natural, well-honed people skills. The new COO will join an established group of leaders that are grounded, sincere and focused on doing the right things and continue BMC's dominant role in its sizeable catchment area, financial strength and stability, and strong culture that supports quality and safety.
This is an outstanding opportunity to be a senior leader for a well-regarded, highly successful regional delivery system with an outstanding reputation that has a stable, leading role within the market. This executive will build on positive relations and models of alignment with providers, strengthening BMC's alignment with its medical staff, especially given the changes impacting the industry and the medical profession in general.
