The Intake Coordinator is responsible for conversion of referrals into actual admissions. The individual manages all referrals from the time of referral to the time of actual admission. The Intake Coordinator monitors turnaround times for completing initial screenings verification of insurance benefits, and secures all necessary approvals prior to admission. The individual must document thoroughly all conversations, authorizations and information related to each referral. The Intake Coordinator documents all referrals, outcomes and timeframes. The individual establishes and maintains relationships with referral sources to facilitate referrals and smooth patient transfers.
Essential Job Functions:
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with referral sources
Effectively converts appropriate referrals into admissions within timeframes identified by referral sources.
Completes accurately and completely Intake Form, obtaining all pertinent financial and personal information on all referrals.
Assures timely completion of screening for all referrals and relays timeframes to referral source and all related parties each stop of the process.
Verifies benefits for all referrals and secures necessary authorizations prior to admission.
Obtains and documents clinical and financial acceptance from Administrator or their designee for all referrals within established timeframes and communicates to referral source and all related parties.
Secures a rate from Administrator or their designee if necessary for a commercial payor. Facilitates care plan and/or additional communication from facility case manager to payor as necessary.
Attends weekly/monthly/quarterly Professional Relations Department meetings.
Participates in daily flash meetings with Administrator and/or key department managers or their designee to discuss referral activities.
Updates daily referral activity and faxes Intake Board to Administrator and/or their designees: Noon and close of business day.
Bachelor's degree in Business, nursing or other health related field.
Must be credentialed or licensed in the state where working.
Previous healthcare experience in a Center operations setting, including background in personnel, finance, sales and marketing and/or reimbursement preferred.
Minimum of one year of experience in healthcare or the diving industry is required. Wound care, hyperbaric medicine and/or experience in emergency medicine or acute medical care are preferred.
Specific training and/or experience in compression chamber operations, including a demonstrated knowledge of decompression tables strongly desired.
High degree of management confidence, including supervisory, leadership and motivational skills.
High degree of organizational and analytical skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Effective problem solving and negotiation skills.
Basic knowledge of healthcare reimbursement issues.
Basic financial/P&L knowledge.
Sales and marketing skills.
Ability to physically meet the working conditions required of the job.
