The Chief Academic Officer (CAO)/Designated Institutional Official (DIO) is responsible for the strategic leadership and direction of operations of all academic matters across the hospital and/or system including partnerships in place with higher education institutions that train and certify clinicians in radiology, anesthesia, and other technical programs of learning.
Works in a matrix with nursing education to insure that educational programs and competencies of current and new nursing staff meet all regulatory requirements.
Ensures achievement of established goals and objectives and to provide quality, educational experiences that is aligned with the clinical operations and strategic initiatives of the hospital and/or system.
Provides guidance for developing and managing financial and capital budgets related to all academic matters.
Leads and provides consultative and technical services based on best practices for enhancing the effectiveness of academic and clinical programs that fulfill accreditation requirements across the hospital and/or system.
Provides leadership, direction, and administers operations for Graduate Medical Education (GME) for all programs. The CAO/DIO will make formal recommendations for improvement based on accreditation requirements for sponsoring institutions within the hospital and/or system.
Provide guidance relative to policy development and accreditation. Develop GME educational and scholarly activity/research opportunities applicable to all disciplines, in collaboration with the Program Directors, GME staff, education staff and hospital and/or system administration.
Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university
At least seven (7) years of progressive experience within education and preferably medical education in a multi-program institution and experience in a leadership role
Deep knowledge of ACGME accreditation processes, requirements and standards
Ability to effectively build positive, constructive relationships with all internal and external stakeholders
Demonstrated past leadership accomplishments and expertise in decision-making and analytical skills
Assertive and encouraging communication style. Diplomatic while being decisive
Motivates and inspires others to achieve mutually beneficial relationships and the highest performance standards
Ability to gain respect from program directors, physicians, administrators and staff
Effective team builder and skilled in developing effective relationships with multiple constituencies, both internally and externally

Continuous readiness for all accreditation body site visits
