Porter Medical Center (PMC) seeks a talented, engaging health care leader as its President and Chief Operating Officer (President and COO), to provide operational and strategic direction for this rural critical access hospital and health system located in Addison County, Vermont. The President and COO will have a considerable impact on the quality of services offered to the community and will help shape the future delivery of health care in Addison County, as well as the State of Vermont. The next President and COO will be a prominent voice in the University of Vermont Health Network (UVMHN), comprised of six hospitals, and will have a vital role in the network as it leads the State of Vermont in the adoption and transition to population health and value-based payment. UVMHN - Porter Medical Center (PMC), located in Middlebury Vermont, has expanded its footprint since the 1920’s to include a 25-bed in-patient service, a 105 bed skilled nursing facility, and a network of 10 primary care and specialty medical practices throughout Addison County and the town of Brandon. On the main campus of Porter, patients receive high quality care in a variety of locations including a Surgical Care Center, a 24-hour emergency department, full service lab, respiratory therapy and radiology departments, an infusion center, Porter ExpressCare, medical/surgical floor, and the Birthing Center. The President and COO of Porter Medical Center is charged with leading an 800 employee organization that is committed to excellence in clinical quality and patient experience. He/she will embrace and promote the organization’s mission “to improve the health of our community, one person at a time,” and its vision to “be a transforming, integrated, modern health care system of choice.” PMC’s next leader should have a strong record of working collaboratively with governing bodies and network colleagues, and will be expected to build and nurture inclusive, collaborative, and trusting relationships with all Porter employees, who consider themselves a family. Porter Medical Center is a valuable asset within the UVMHN and the President and COO will ensure that PMC’s strategic vision is aligned with the strategic vision and direction of the network. He/she will communicate a clear and compelling vision for the organization’s and community’s future, and will inspire the Board of Directors, network leadership, Porter’s senior leadership team, staff, providers, nurses, and the community Porter serves to make that vision a reality.
The successful candidate will have experience at the senior executive level in an acute care health system, with experience in the critical access setting preferred. Candidates must be inclusive and inspiring with a clear track record of success advancing innovative and effective operational initiatives, as well as the ability to be a credible clinical champion. A Master’s degree or higher, preferably in health care administration, public administration, business administration, or a clinical discipline is required.
