The Phlebotomist collects blood from patients in compliance with new and revised procedures instituted in the hospital laboratory procedure manual and in accordance to standards set by the NCCLS. Sample collection involves the promotion of good public relations with patients and hospital personnel, laboratory specimen processing, maintenance of safe sterile working conditions, and participation in continuing education programs. Additional duties may include point-of-care testing, quality control checks on POCT instruments, performance of skin tests, data entry, report routing, and packaging of specimens for shipment to off site laboratories.::
