The RN must possess the ability to perform ongoing assessments of the behavioral and medical needs of the patients each shift and accurately chart those observations of the patient in the nurseâ€™s note each shift. He/she must be able to carry out physician orders regarding diet, medication and treatment. He/she, under the direction of the Charge Nurse, will authorize emergency implementation of seclusion and restraint in the physicianâ€™s absence according to hospital policy, as well as participating in, supervises and documents any special treatment procedures, progressive interventions and de-escalation of patients according to hospital policy. The RN will be responsible for creating, maintaining and managing a therapeutic milieu within the treatment program to ensure safety of patients and staff. He/she will demonstrate appropriate Therapeutic Boundaries with patients and coworkers. The RN will report to Charge Nurse/House Supervisors/Director of Nursing and will possibly oversee/supervise LPNs and MHAs in selected aspects of direct clinical care as needed or directed.
