North Country Hospital (NCH) seeks a dynamic, experienced and strategic leader as its President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO), to provide operational and strategic direction to this independent, rural critical access hospital located in Newport, Vermont. The CEO will have significant impact on the quality of services, as well as a genuine opportunity to shape how care is delivered through the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. A Top 100 Critical Access Hospital (CAH), NCH is a 25-bed nonprofit CAH with more than 400 FTEs and 50 active medical providers. For fiscal year 2017, net operating revenue for NCH was $85 million.
The CEO of North Country Hospital is charged with leading the organization and maintaining the strong momentum and focus on achieving excellence in service and clinical quality. He/she will embrace the mission of NCH and will have a strong record of working collaboratively with a board of trustees, in addition to building close working relationships with physicians and staff. He/she will communicate a clear and compelling vision and roadmap for the future; and inspire the board, physicians, employees and the community to work toward that vision collaboratively. The CEO will have an ability to translate the future vision for the hospital into an executable plan focused on quality, performance, growth, and independence.
The CEO will lead an organization culture, which has at its core the highest level of commitment to quality outcomes, patient experience, employee engagement, physician satisfaction, operational discipline, and financial stewardship. The CEO and the leadership team will guide the Hospital in the achievement of operational excellence and sustainable financial performance, and will engage the leadership team and physicians as partners in clinical and operational excellence. He/she will lead with integrity and transparency, and build strong and trusted professional relationships with all internal and external business partners.
Given the significant role of North Country Hospital in the Northeast Kingdom, the CEO role is one of prominence; the NCH CEO will be a sought-out resource on healthcare issues from a variety of political, civic, and other leaders in the region; it is imperative that good relationships with those leaders and elected officials be maintained and nurtured. He/she will need to become the “face of NCH” internally to the physicians and employees, and externally throughout the broad service area, as well as at a State level. The CEO must be a visible, engaging leader, getting to know the employees and physicians. Personal time spent with physicians will be crucial, in addition to being accessible to them, listening to questions or concerns, and following up with them.
We seek individuals who are inspiring leaders, team oriented, and results driven. It is critical for the next CEO to have experience in leading an organization that provides high-quality care while maintaining a focus on serving the local community. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of building physician relationships, have a willingness to serve, and have a strong track record of fostering a culture of engagement across the organization. With the significant presence of the hospital in the community, the CEO will be expected to be very involved in Newport and the surrounding communities. Experience in a rural community hospital would be a plus.
