Surgical Technologist Perioperative OR Services Lakeland Medical Center, Lakeland, Florida Shift: Mon. - Fri., with call rotation
The professional we select for this vital role will perform surgical/technical duties while maintaining asepsis and safety in the care of patients in accordance with established standards. Demonstrating the knowledge and skills to scrub the surgical procedure, this individual will fulfill the surgeon’s requests for supplies and equipment to facilitate a smoothly functioning operating room. Anticipating the needs of the surgeon, this person coordinate with the circulating nurse to maintain adequate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments; and be accountable for proper handling and identification of specimens on the surgical field.
Additional responsibilities include:
Collaborating with team members and practitioners to recommend changes in policies and procedures.
Performing patient-care activities according to unit policy and procedures.
Identifying and facilitating opportunities for improvement in the areas of quality care and services, stewardship, employee engagement, communication, accountability, and customer satisfaction.
Demonstrating the appropriate use of infection control principles and personal-protection equipment.
Role modelling through professional development continuous learning and improvement of competence.
Coaching, teaching and mentoring others to continuously increase the competence of the team.
Maintaining patient comfort, confidentiality and privacy; and adhering to HIPAA standards.
Demonstrating knowledge of all equipment, instruments, and systems/technology necessary to complete duties and responsibilities.
Properly discarding disposable items; preparing, spraying and safely transporting instruments to the SPD; assisting with operating room clean-up between cases and end-of-day and restock of rooms.
Organizing job functions and work assignments to effectively complete assignments within established time frames.
Education, Experience, and Licensure
Successful applicants will each possess certification as a surgical technologist at hire or within 30 days, completion of an accredited operating room technologist course or equivalent training, and a high school diploma or GED equivalent. 1+ years of experience in an acute-care operating room setting preferred.
