The CHRISTUS Health Media and Public Relations Manager will serve as the system's external communications lead, implementing, supporting and promoting CHRISTUS Health's media relations and public relations efforts at the system level and will oversee these activities in the domestic CHRISTUS regions. To accomplish this, the Manager will work closely with CHRISTUS Health's Vice President of Communications & Public Affairs and CHRISTUS Health's EVP/Chief Administrative Officer as well as other key system exectuives and ministry leaders and collaborate closely with the CHRISTUS ministry presidents and executives. The Manager will help position CHRISTUS Health as a leader in the health care industry, on par with other well-known and positively perceived systems. The Manager will work closely to identify key media outlets and reporters with whom to develop strategic relationships, and will create and oversee strategic media and communication plans for the CHRISTUS Health system and each of its ministries.
When regional or national media issues arise, the Manager is available to craft a strategic communciation response plan and to assist local and system leaders in creating messaging that explains the system's position in an understandable way. The Manager will also oversee two direct reports who will be responsible for directing each ministry's day-to-day media relations and responding to local media and public relations needs.
The Manager will also oversee brand journalism for the system, continuing to implement a brand journalism strategy and ensuring that content from CHRISTUS Health is available on CHRISTUS-branded sites that position the system as a system of note. The Manager understands national health care trends and can utilize this understanding to help the system respond in appropriate ways and further position itself publicly as a leader in many areas of the industry. The Manager also utilizes the system's online news media archive to direct the proactive media communciations of the system, interpreting its data and developing benchmarks and plans to increase the system's strategic media relations.
The Manager will be privy to and responsible for protecting the integrity of confidential corporate information, including strategic plans, financial information, risk management situations and patient information. The Manager is called upon to make critical suggestions and strategy decisions related to issues and critical positioning opportunities, and to act as spokesperson to media representatives upon request.
The manager will be required to interface daily with various publics and constituents, including senior leadership, Communications Council, CHRISTUS Associates across the enterprise and community and political leaders. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES -Supervise media/public relations Associates -Maintain relationships with national media outlets and reporters and collaborate closely with media/public relations Associates to develop relationships with regional media outlets and reporters. -Leverage media and public relations to pitch relevant stories and increase news coverage of CHRISTUS Health and its facilities. -Train appropriate Associates on vital communication tools including media measurement software, dashboard reporting tool, etc. -Provide direction in the areas of Media Relations, Public Relations and crisis communications best practices. -Create, maintain, and achieve goals laid out in strategic media plan for system. -Utilize media archive to increase strategic pitching; aggregate and explain coverage data to help regions understand media coverage and pitch stories more effectively. -Maintain brand journalism website. Utilize site to carry relevant CHRISTUS stories, videos and photography that position the system as a leader and an advoate nationally. -Utilize relevant information, such as interviews of key system leaders, to pitch stories to journalists, position CHRISTUS nationally and to create content for brand journalism website. -Manage communication when media issues arise, drafting strategic communication response plans and any additional materials necessary. Anticipate reporter questions and perceptions and help prepare spokespeople to respond appropriately. -Understand and stay abreast of key issues and changes in health care industry, as well as events and projects occuring within the system; use this information to alert system teams to potential inquiries, prepare them to respond, and identify ways to use this information to position CHRISTUS on the national stage. -Write and edit a variety of internal and external communications, including but not limited to, magazine articles, newsletters and news releases, brand journalism posts, news articles, web pages and communications/presentations for meetings and special events. -Work collaboratively with members of the system communications team and ministries to ensure that relevant content is drafted and disseminated effectively through appropriate system communication channels. -Represent the public relations function on various internal committees and task forces, as requested. -Manage and maintain vendor relationships, as appropriate to responsibilities. -Manage the monitoring of all media mentions of CHRISTUS Health and its hospitals. -Develop and manage CHRISTUS Health external communication strategies and plans for use across the enterprise. -Create and manage the CHRISTUS Health external communication calendar, working closely with the Manager of Social Media & Reputation Management. -Serve as media and public relation consultant to CHRISTUS Health regions and other system departments on issue management, crisis communications, editing of news releases print collateral and external communication strategy as needed. -Collaborates with Vice President, Communications & Public Affairs in media relations, both proactive and reactive, including pitching stories to reporters and editors. -Manages the collection of story ideas and creation of content for brand journalism website. -Manages communication crisis response when media or public relations crises arise. -Develop and lead PR strategies and campaigns. -Assist with story- and publicity-relevant photography and video assignments across the system. -Assist with the planning, production, editorial and distribution responsibilities of system publications, including newsletters, the system annual report and other printed materials as needed. -Performs other duties as assigned.
