Director of Speech, Language and Hearing - Job Description
Position and Responsibilities
The Director of Speech, Language and Hearing will be responsible for managing (hiring and evaluating) a team of full-time therapists including Speech-Language Pathologists, Speech and Language Clinical Fellows and Hearing Educators. The candidate is required to have clinical experience with pediatric acquired brain injury and will be responsible for ensuring the highest level of care evaluating the speech, language, and oral motor needs of students and implementing comprehensive, evidence based treatment to an assigned patient caseload. The ability to work collaboratively with an inter-disciplinary team including teachers, service providers, and administrators to provide and promote evidence based care is essential.
Director will be responsible for developing in-service educational programs and providing continuing education through mentorship and organized feeding, speech and language, AAC and oral motor training. Director will be required to attend and organize regular meetings with department staff and administration (including weekly directors meeting and IEP meetings for students).
The director will need to have the flexibility to attend professional development to stay current in best practices with augmentative & alternative communication assessment and implementation, as well as other forms of assistive technology. This includes:
Experience with students with significant disabilities, which include physical and communication disabilities
Experience with of a range of augmentative and alternative communication systems, including both light tech and high tech systems.
Experience with an interdisciplinary team approach to assessing complex students for augmentative and alternative communication.
Experience with teaching students how to use augmentative and alternative communication through authentic, interactive best practices.
Knowledge of assistive technology for access to academics and leisure for students with multiple disabilities.
iHOPE-NYC is a 12-month program that runs from 8:30 AM-5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. A benefits package is available for full time staff.

Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology
New York State Education Department License
Current NYSED registration as a Speech-Language Pathologist
NYSED certificate as a Teacher of the Speech and Hearing Handicapped (TSHH) or Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD)
Certificate of Clinical Competence
Experience with AAC
Experience implementing Assistive Technology
3 years of direct pediatric experience
3 years of experience in a management position
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to assess and manage swallowing and feeding difficulties in children with multiple disabilities
SOS, PROMPT trained preferred
Bilingual in Spanish preferred
