Grace Cottage Family Health & Hospital, a nationally recognized rural health care provider located in Townshend, Vermont, is seeking a Chief Executive Officer. Grace Cottage Family Health & Hospital includes a critical access hospital with 19-beds (the Hospital), Messenger Valley Pharmacy, and Grace Cottage Family Rural Health Clinic (the Clinic), a federally qualified rural health clinic.
The Hospital provides inpatient acute care, as well as inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services in the areas of physical, occupational, and speech therapy, as well as chiropractic services. The Hospital is also equipped with a hospice suite, onsite laboratory and diagnostic departments, a 24-hour emergency department, and offers infusion therapy. The Emergency Department has a safe room, which allows the hospital to more safely and effectively treat patients with acute behavioral health needs.
Grace Cottage was recently named a Top 20 Critical Access Hospital for Best Practice - Patient Satisfaction by the National Rural Health Association. It is an extraordinary achievement to be in the “Top 20” out of 1,339 Critical Access Hospitals in the United States. In 2014, Grace Cottage Hospital was ranked 14th among all New England hospitals and 1st in VT by GoLocalProv.
The Chief Executive Officer of Grace Cottage Family Heath & Hospital reports to and is accountable to the Board of Trustees, with whom he/she will closely work to establish clear vision, strategic direction and organizational policy. The CEO provides the operational leadership, strategic guidance, and management direction necessary to fulfill the organization’s mission. Additionally, the CEO will serve as a highly visible leader and strong advocate for GCFHH within the local community, with state and local government agencies, business and health care professional organizations, as well as other health care institutions. The new CEO will bring a proven track record of successful financial and operations improvement and will have demonstrated his/her ability to effectively manage and lead within a healthcare organization.
The Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate will be a strategic, yet operationally focused leader and will possess strong business acumen, political savvy, community orientation, and a high degree of interest in civic engagement governmental affairs, and philanthropy. An individual with vision, energy, strong decision-making skills, a positive executive presence, and integrity, S/he will have excellent communication and relationship skills.
Required background qualifications and training:
An advanced degree in business administration, healthcare management, or a related field is preferred.
Minimum of ten years of progressively responsible, successful leadership experience in health care management and operations, with at least five years in a senior-level executive role required.
Demonstrated success in building and maintaining positive and effective relationships with physicians.
Demonstrated competence in building and leading effective and cohesive management teams who are held to high standards of accountability.
Demonstrated experience and competence in financial planning and management.
A strong knowledge and understanding of patient care services and the ability to connect well with physicians and clinical professionals.
Prior experience working effectively with a Board of Trustees.
Proven community relations experience.
Rural healthcare experience is preferred.
