The Dean McGee Eye Institute is seeking an experienced contact lens fitter for our large multispecialty ophthalmology practice located in Oklahoma City adjacent to the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. The qualified individual will be responsible for contact lens fitting and administration of the Contact Lens section at the Dean McGee Eye Institute. Our faculty includes all ophthalmic subspecialties. In particular, we have several comprehensive ophthalmologists, optometrists, pediatric ophthalmologists, and three cornea specialists that work particularly close to the contact lens fitters. The responsibilities will include direct and follow-up patient care. We also encourage participation in resident education, both clinical and didactic. The patient population includes both healthy eye contact lens fits and complex medical fits (pediatrics, post corneal transplant, keratoprosthesis, scleral lenses, etc.).
The Institute provides more than 188,000 patient visits annually and has recently completed a $47 million building expansion resulting in a total of 148,000 square feet of clinical and research space. The Department houses many National Institutes of Health-funded investigators and a Clinical Trials Unit interested in collaboration and translational research. In addition, several of our faculty hold state and national leadership positions.
Oklahoma City, with a population of over 600,000 and a metropolitan area of 1.3 million, is experiencing a major downtown renaissance and enjoys a low cost of living and unemployment rate, lots of sunshine, and numerous cultural and recreational opportunities (including NBA Thunder basketball).
Candidates must be experienced and capable of handling complex medical contact lens fitting in a caring and efficient manner. Individuals with specialty training in contacts lens fitting or experienced individuals are encouraged to apply (Optometrists or FCLSA/NCLE Fitters).
