This position is located in Oakland, CA and only local candidates are considered. No relocation fee is offered.
Job Summary The Credential Specialist performs credentialing functions pertaining to Medical Staff as set forth in The Joint Commission (TJC), State Regulations and CMS Regulations. Requires high level of organizational skills with ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment while maintaining a professional and courteous demeanor with customers and associates.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Act in an appropriate and professional manner as defined by the company’s Standards of Behavior, Policy and Procedures, and Scope of Services.
Basic organization and structure of healthcare organizations, policies and procedures, work practices, forms and documents associated with credentialing responsibilities.
Compile and summarize data for use by department, and to comply with procedural or administrative requirements.
Correct English usage including grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary covering common administrative terminology.
Exercise discretion and sound judgment in coordinating and performing the assigned work.
Follow clear directions, instructions and protocol in the course of assigned duties.
Maintain highly sensitive and confidential information.
Maintains current knowledge of The Joint Commission (TJC), State and CMS credentialing/medical staff regulations.
Knowledge of Medical terminology.
Modern standard office practices and procedures including records management, business correspondence, office administrative and coordination techniques.
Organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines and follow up on assignments with minimum direction.
Provide varied, complex, responsible and often confidential office administrative assistance.
Research, compile and summarize informational materials.
Understand, interpret, apply and explain departmental policies and procedures.
Use standard office equipment, including computer, word processing and spreadsheet software, and peripheral equipment such as facsimile machines, printers and copiers.
Use tact, discretion and prudence in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
With assistance, prioritize, perform or solve problems related to deviations in assigned work in order to meet fixed or fluctuating deadlines and achieve work objectives.
With supervision, use initiative and judgment within established policy and procedural guidelines.
Education: High School diploma or GED, PLUS AA/AS degree from a two-year college.
Minimum Experience: Three to five years credentialing experience in an acute care hospital; must be able to work in a labor / management partnership.
Required Licenses/Certifications: Certification from the National Association of Medical Staff Services as a Certified Medical Staff Coordinator (CMSC) and/or Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS). If not certified at the time of hire, certification must be obtained within two (2) years for CPSC and/or (4) years for CMSC depending on experience and satisfying of National Association of Medical Staff Services educational requirements.
