The incumbent will serve in conjunction with other members of the Hospitalist team to provide evidence based patient-centered care to our Veterans and help to lead daily patient care rounds and discharge planning with members of the interdisciplinary team. The ideal candidate demonstrates sound decision making skills in clinical, teaching and administrative areas. The current hospitalist program consists of 7 full time physicians, one part time physician and 2 full time nurse practitioners. VAWNYHS is a level 1b teaching, 199 bed hospital that provides a full range of patient care, clinical services, education and research. The hospital serves an increasingly diverse Veteran population that have significant needs when hospitalized. VAWNYHS is a teaching facility affiliated with The State University of New York at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. Internal Medicine Residents round with four of the five Hospitalist teams. The successful candidate would provide clinical care to our hospitalized Veterans admitted to non-Intensive Care Unit areas typically rounding on 10-15 patients daily. Clinical responsibilities are admissions, discharges, ongoing care of medical inpatients utilizing an electronic medical record, and bedside procedures. Additional responsibilities include medical consultations of Surgical and Psychiatric patients. The incumbent is expected to provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the promotion of health, prevention of illness, and treatment of disease. The ideal candidate should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills that enable them to establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and other members of the health care team. The incumbent is expected to adhere to stated policies and provide timely documentation of clinical notes (e.g. H&P, consult review, discharge summaries, medication reconciliation, etc). In addition, the incumbent is expected to coordinate and communicate the treatment plan with Hospitalists, primary care providers, nursing, social workers, clerical staff, pharmacy and other subspecialists and ancillary staff. The ideal candidate will have hospitalist experience and help to ensure that high quality patient care is delivered in a resourceful and efficient manner.
Work Schedule: Tour of Duty: Monday - Friday, 8am - 4:30pm, Service responsibilities will include on-call and weekend/holiday coverage of the resident service. Subject to change based on the needs of the agency.

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of a three year residency in Internal Medicine, or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Board certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine.
Minimum of at least two years experience as a full time Hospitalist.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The physical requirements of this position include lifting, prolonged standing and sitting, frequent bending, walking (distance), climbing, reaching (overhead, extensive/repetitive), repetitive motionand stooping.
