The Incumbent is an independent care provided who is highly skilled in the management of a patient's mental health needs or subspecialty evaluation and treatment; conducts history, physical exams and mental status exams on assigned patients; completes intake assessments and formulates diagnosis. Develops and presents treatment plans to the multidisciplinary treatment team. Order all necessary laboratory and radiological assessments; initiates consults and referrals as indicated. Psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy as indicated in the treatment plan. Maintains effective and up-to-date documentation of patient encounters and performs psychiatry on-call duties as assigned. Incumbent participates in professional and administrative activities as assigned. Admits, evaluates, diagnoses, treats and provides consultation to patients of all ages except as specifically excluded from practice: presenting with mental, behavioral, addictive or emotional disorders, e.g. psychoses, depression, anxiety disorders including but not limited to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, substance abuse disorders, developmental disabilities, Sexual dysfunctions, and adjustment disorders.

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of aresidency training (or first-year), or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary ofVeterans Affairs in an accredited core specialtytraining program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA Physicians involved in academic training programs may be requiredto be board certified for faculty status.)
Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Physical Requirements: This position is primarily a sedentary position with a great deal of work in an office, working at a computer monitor and keyboard, answering phone, using tele/video monitor, prolonged sitting, and interacting with patients. Some physical exertion is required and includes but not limited to: walking to various clinical activities, standing, minimal lifting, and walking up and down stairs.
